About K-Drama History
K-Drama History exists for one kind of moment: you're deep into a Korean historical drama, something happens on screen that clearly matters to the characters — a haircut, a bow, a refused marriage — and you have no idea why. We explain why.
Each article starts from a single scene in a drama you already love, then opens it into the real history behind it: Korean dynasties, Confucian values, court life — and, our favorite part, how the same idea played out elsewhere in the world, both East and West. We don't just translate Korean history; we put it in conversation with the world.
Who writes this
Two people make each article. The history comes from a working history educator; the English edition is written and edited by his co-author. Both are named on every page.
SaDDungSam (Taehoon Kim) — History and fact-checking
SaDDungSam (사뚱샘, Taehoon Kim) is a Korean history educator who currently teaches East Asian, world and Korean history at a Korean academy. He created the YouTube channel 사뚱샘의 역사방 (SaDDungSam's History Room), home to 570+ history lectures, and previously taught for EBS, South Korea's national public educational broadcaster. He supplies the historical material for this site and fact-checks every article against primary records.
Wangyoul Lee — Writing and editing
Wangyoul Lee runs a university-entrance academy in South Korea and has spent two decades in Korean education, including a period teaching for EBS, the national public educational broadcaster. He is the co-author of Pause the Drama, the book behind this site, and the author of 「AI 시대, 아빠는 불안하다」 (In the Age of AI, Dad Is Anxious). He writes and edits the English editions of these articles.
The aim is simple: history that's accurate, and told as a story worth reading. Every article is checked against primary records before it goes up.
